Jesus Christ, The Eye Opener, Worship Him

CHRONICLE vol.14 #49

The Book of John chapter 9 tells us about the story of Jesus Christ healing a man who had been born blind. This man's spiritual blindness from birth illustrates that outside of God's grace we are similarly totally hopeless, for we can never earn eternal life through our own effort. This miracle is noteworthy because Jesus Christ revealed Himself to mankind as our eye opener and because of this truth, we must worship Him.

Jesus Christ is intentional

The Jews believe that sin is the cause of al suffering. Jesus however corrected them that this man's blindness was not caused by some specific sin. Instead the problem existed so that God could display His glory in the midst of this seeming tragedy.

In John 9:6, Jesus took some earth and spat on it to make mud or clay and place it on the man's eye. Jesus intentionally used the clay, not because it had medicinal power, but to help the man develop his faith. Jesus intentionally healed this man on a Sabbath which to the Jews was considered work if done on a Sabbath.

Unlike in other cases where people sought Jesus or requested Him or were brought to Him in order to be cured, Jesus intentionally healed this man's blindness even if the man did not ask to be healed. This tells us that our Lord is an intentionally loving, caring and compassionate God. He knows what we need and at times he blesses us even before we ask Him.

Jesus is the Son of God

The healed blind man gave a simple and factual account of how the miracle occurred. Then he pointed to the Lord, as the Man they call Jesus (John 9:11). The Pharisees interrogated the man about his situation, and he narrated to them what happened. The Pharisees accussed Jesus of violation the Sabbath and concluded that He must be a false prophet. Thus the Pharisees claimed, "This Man is not from God".

But the other Pharisees believed that the healing was so impressive that a sinner could not have done it. The parents were afraid to give any opinion either about the cure of their son or about the healer, Jesus Christ and noted that their son was of legal age so he can testify for himself.

At this point, the Pharisees tried to intimidate and pressure the healed man into withdrawing his testimony about Jesus. They told him to give the glory to God and admit his guilt in siding with Jesus, whom they called a sinner. The healed blind man refused to deny what he knew and was certain of: "I was blind, but now I see!" His logic was that God does not listen to sinners and no one has ever heard of a man born blind being healed and receiving sight. Therefore, this man Jesus must be from God.

Jesus Christ wants to have an intimate relationship with us.

After the healed blind man was thrown out of the Synagogue, Jesus took the initiative to find him. What this is telling us is that Jesus Christ cares for us and He goes out of His way and takes the initiative to seek us out so we can have a relationship with Him. And after Jesus Christ disclosed to him that He was a Son of Man, the Messiah, he immediately responded with "Lord, I believe" and began to worship Jesus Christ.

As you study the Bible and read about His life and the miracles He performed, do you still refuse to believe and continue to deny the deity of Jesus Christ, or do you now believe that He is the Son of God? Like the healed blind man, Jesus Christ can transform our blindness to sight and convert our darkness to light, so that we can see and recognize Him for who He truly is; the Son of God, the promised Messiah, the giver of eternal life.
